The Dordogne
The Dordogne is ancient France, where Sir Lancelot was exiled from the court of King Arthur and where human pre-history is brought vividly to life in the stunning cave galleries of Lascaux, the Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art.
Chartres
Chartres is built on the left bank of the Eure River, on a hill crowned by its famous cathedral, the spires of which are a landmark in the surrounding country. To the south-east stretches the fruitful plain of Beauce, the "granary of France", of which the town is the commercial centre.
Corsica
Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, it has 1,000km of coastline and more than 200 beaches, as well as being largely mountainous, with Monte Cinto as the highest peak at 2706m and 20 other summits of more than 2000m. The photos were taken whilst following the gruelling "Haute Route" or GR 20 that crosses the Mediterranean island of Corsica from north to south. This is a real mountain hike and some will even qualify this path as one of the hardest in Europe.
